Noosa Summit House by Bark Design Architects

Description by Bark Design Architects :

Dramatically perched on a hinterland ridgetop, this house evolved from a duality of site considerations reconciled by an overriding concern to create a private oasis and indulgent sense of calm.

At its essence, the house is a simple ‘L’ that is carefully placed to barricade the harsh western sun and occasional noise, while opening itself to the opportunity for views, northern light and cooling sea breezes. The heart of the house lies at the juncture. Here the two lightweight wings are delicately and transparently joined to form a well of light internally, and enfold the external private courtyard and swimming pool.

The main bedroom retreat is concealed above the cabana, maximising privacy while capturing cooling north-easterlies and hinterland views that stretch on towards the coast, while double-height living spaces that open to the north and east honour the verticality of tallowwood, turpentine and flooded gums.
